We envisage a society empowered to prevent substance abuse, equipped to overcome
addiction and leading fulfilled and transformed lives, safe in their mental health. We
strive to provide individuals, families and communities with the adequate information
and tools for prevention and recovery

Project Kurarama was founded in 2016 by Dave Martins with the support of
Highlands Presbyterian Church (Harare). Through his own experience with
addiction, Dave recognized a widespread misunderstanding of substance
abuse within his community. Driven by a desire to make a difference, he
aimed to shift cultural perceptions and address the limited help available for
those in need. Inspired to assist those struggling with addiction and unsure of
where to turn, Dave established Project Kurarama.

‘kurarama’ means ‘to live’.
We believe that anyone can stand firm – to live a life free from the chains of addiction and safe in their mental health
